canard deux

Seillans, France

canard deux was created in the Côte d'Azur hinterland, near the picturesque village of Seillans. A Citroën 2CV is parked at the stop sign on a side street. It is an early model from the 1950s - without rear quarter window and with a ribbed hood. The deux chevaux - named after the then French tax classification - was radically simple and functionally designed, with just 12 hp - ideal for the basic transport needs of a French farmer: room for two people, a bag of potatoes and two cases of Beaujolais, perhaps also a pack of Gauloises Maïs. In Germany, the car later became an image booster for students, bohemians, and intellectuals. Or for those who wanted to be and express their lifestyle with the "Ente" (Duck).

An early 2CV in Provence is the epitome of French way of life. The driver is not on board, perhaps he is currently on his way with a picnic basket, a bottle of Beaujolais, baguette and his charming companion - enjoying life under a shady tree.
